The C13 Fencing contractors license exam manual briefly covers the major topics of the State exam including Post Installation, Wire Fences, Wood Fences, and Specialty Fencing. The Fencing Manual also contains the Health and Safety Orders and Fencing Review Questions.
Please be sure to study all of the practice exams. It is important to read and understand each question, and read every word of the explanations. It is necessary to learn the principles behind the question because the State’s questions may be worded differently.
TESTING STRATEGY:
Do not memorize the sample practice exam questions. This is a multiple-choice examination with four choices per question. Some questions require mathematical computation. Examination questions are written to provide only one BEST answer and are NOT written as trick questions.
There is no penalty for guessing. If you are unsure about a particular question, it is better to try to answer the question than to leave the question blank.
Ample time is provided to answer all examination questions, so be sure to read each question and its four choices completely and carefully before selecting the BEST possible answer to the question.
Trade Description:
A C13 fencing contractor can handle projects to erect, place, repair, and construct corrals, fences, runs, cribs, railings, enclosures, barriers, guard rails, posts, backstops, gates, flagpoles and several others. However, preparing masonry walls is not included in this classification.

The license guru course material was very well put together. The videos paired with the simulated exams were excellent. I simply watched all course videos once, and took the simulated exams until I passed all exams with a 90%. I went into the state exams unsure of how I would do, but by the end of the test I knew I would pass. The course prepares you for the ambiguous nature of the states test questions. I would highly recommend this course. The price is far better than any other courses, and the customer service is excellent. 5 stars!

Hiring the Guru was the best decision I made in the process of getting my B-general license. Personally, I had ZERO interaction with the CSLB throughout the entire process, which is fine by me. After going through the process, I really feel like filling out the paperwork myself would have only created problems for myself with the CSLB. Phil is literally amazing my husband took his test in April and quickly submitting all his documents, fingerprints, bonds, asbestos you name it. We called after a month has passed wondering why his license hasn’t been issued and we would get the same response from every “you have everything just wait, it will be issued soon”… come August 14 and still nothing. So frustrating. I gave one call to Phil and that same day less than 6hrs later and my husband was issued his license number. Wow ! I had a reasonably complicated State Licensing Board issue, something a little beyond the comfort level of your regular person. The Business and Law book's information was spot on. I passed the test on my first try. The questions were literally right from the pages in the book. I did not have time to do any practice tests and still passed on my first attempt. The Trade book provides a decent amount of info as well. But a lot of your knowledge comes from working in the trade. You still have to use your head on the exam and think about what the question is asking you. My first attempt I did not do any practice flash cards or tests and I FAILED the exam by 7 questions. I retook the test 2 weeks later. I studied for 2 full days; reviewed 400 flash cards questions, and re-read the book. This time the exam just felt easier because I was more prepared. I was fully confident when I hit the "score my exam" button, and I PASSED!
Pros: good material, 12 month access to do the online study, (longest out of any contractor school)
Cons: no cellphone app, have to sit at a computer to use their DVDs/CDs to follow along in the book
I came to Phil because I had been trying to get a license on my own vs. rely on my RMO. I had applied 2 times and been denied.
