Filing a CSLB Complaint

Or as I like to call it, the… Contractors State Anti-License Board, since they seem to go out of their way to deny licenses.

Do you feel like you’ve submitted overwhelming proof of your experience, followed every ridiculous request and requirement thrown at you by the CSLB? Do you feel like all they’ve done is drag you along with multiple requests for this doc or that scrap of paper? Have you replied within the timelines they’ve set only to never hear from them until you get a letter stating they’ve denied your application? Are you tired of calling and emailing them without ever receiving a reply? Have they denied your application based on some unknown, made up, pretend law or regulation that they don’t even bother to share with you while they’re denying your application unjustly?

Well don’t feel alone! There are 100’s of applicants at any given time going through the same thing you are.

What can you do about it?

How to file a complaint against the Contractors State License Board

One thing you can do is contact your State Representative. Click here, enter your home address, then click on the Rep’s web link. They all have a “Contact” button or form on their site. Tell them how poorly you’re being treated by this State agency and how non-transparent they are. Tell them you’re mad as hell and you won’t take it anymore!

You can also file a complaint with the Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA). I’d recommend going through your State rep and using this DCA complaint process. Click here to file your complaint with DCA. You can remain anonymous if you want, but that probably wouldn’t result in a resolution of your application.

The more pressure that is put on the CSLB either politically or internally from the department that oversees their blatant disregard for the law as written, the better! We as citizens with Rights assured to us by the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution are duty bound to tell our government that we don’t approve of what they’re doing!

  1. I had a license qualifier Disassociated by accident I caught the error a month and a half after his disassociation from my license I sent out the necessary paperwork and I called the California state licensing board a total of three times and two times of those three calls I was given the same information that if I had paperwork already being processed qualifying individual that I would not get my license suspended on October 22 two days before my license was going to be expired I called again and asked if I needed an extension because I had seen they received my application they charged my check they took my money but they haven’t updated anything Online in their system I called and was told that my license was suspended because I didn’t have a qualifier that I needed to fix this problem before the 90 days I had to fix it or else I would be suspended I told the representative that was not what I was told two times ago when I called and she said that they had a new representatives in the office and that it may be that they gave me wrong information I cannot work now because my license is suspended and there is no hurry to get the qualifier who already was the same qualifier for my license back on there

  2. I am going through this right now. I applied for reciprocity from Nevada. I have held a license in good standing for over 5 years now in the classification I am applying for. The company that I work for had multiple corporations and incorporated all of them into one corporation. By doing this, a new federal tax ID number was created. This also resulted in the state issuing a new license number after going through the process of voluntarily surrendering the previous license. Is submitted information for both licenses to CLSB and was told that it did not meet the requirements. Both licenses are clearly for the same company, the owner is the same, my name, and the physical mailing address are the same. The new license even states that I took the qualifying exam back in 2014, and there is no lapse between the two licenses. When I called to ask about why, the person could not give me an answer and told me she had to talk to her manager and call me back. I finally got her on the phone after two weeks of leaving messages, and she told me she had to go talk to her manager yet again. She then told me she had to call the state of Nevada. I had already called the state of NV after my first call with CSLB and the rep for Nevada didn’t see anything wrong with how the license was and that they would recognize this reciprocal. CSLB told me they would call me back that afternoon with an answer after they spoke with NV board. That was 6 days ago.

    1. I see no reason either why you wouldn’t qualify for reciprocity. I’ve seen reciprocity given in this very circumstance before. You can call the cslb licensing manager and/or give the NV board the managers phone number.
